The other day we were playing a game of Blockbuster, and the loser had to bow to the winner as penalty. It so happened that my daughter-in-law won the game, and I was supposed to bow to her in abeisance. When I got up to do so, the lady next to me, nudged me. “How can you bow to your daughter-in-law? It undermines your dignity as a mother-in-law.”
So how could I? I could and I did. In fact, I bent extra low, just to cock a snook at the lady who thought that bending to a daughter-in-law even in a game was infra-dig. It is women such as these, who think that a daughter-in-law is something the cat has been brought in and must be kept in her proper place, who need an orientation class!
